First Methodist Church

Methodism played a very important role in the development of this community, particularly the Mount Allison University.

Methodism was brought to this area in 1770s by Yorkshire settlers.

The first downtown Methodist Church was built in 1818 at the corner of Main and Bridge Street. This was a brick building.

Successive churches were built at the same location in 1838, 1876, and 1898.

Presently an apartment building occupies this location.

A memorial has been erected next to this building to commemorate all these churches and their impact on the community. Infomration source: New Historical Memorial
