This is a unique ceramic bowl, thoughtfully hand-crafted. The initial piece was started in 2011. It has taken many efforts and repeated firings to get the spectacular glaze effects. It is difficult to see all the amazing colours of the glazes in the photograph.  It is one of a kind handmade piece which is bound to attract attention let alone start conversations.

'Protective Spirit' is a sculptural creation inspired by the practices and beliefs of indigenous people in protective spirits. They believe all living beings are interconnected. The indigenous people have a strong connection with nature, mother earth and all living beings. They revere the animals, plants and all creations of nature, because the gifts of Mother Nature are all around us, enriching our lives everyday. They act as protective spirits for humans.

Dr. Margaret Robinson and Melissa Marie Legge published a paper in the Journal of Indigenous Social Development entitled, 'Animals in Indigenous Spiritualities: Implications for Critical Social'. They say,"We identify four ways in which animals feature in Indigenous spiritualities: 1) as part of kinship systems; 2) as sources of wisdom and protection; 3) as ceremonially significant; and 4) as historically important."

Folklore:

The folklore of Native Indian tribes talks about the protective spirits of animals. Animals are revered as sacred beings and are believed to have supernatural powers. According to shamanic beliefs, the protective spirit of an animal guides, protects and helps individuals or communities.
