Hidden Strength

CA$ 249.00 CAD

At the moment of inception, the baby is surrounded by water, the protective and nurturing fluid in the amniotic sac. From that moment on, the water plays a fundamental role in sustaining us. The unborn child is cradled in fluid-filled environment that nurtures its growth and development, providing essential nutrients and protection. Take this analogy of mother and child a bit further. Mother Nature is the all sustaining entity that provides unlimited water for us, the most precious resource that sustains us for the rest of our lives. From the amniotic sac on it is a lifelong relationship with water. Water permeates every aspect of our existence. 75% of human body is water which facilitates all our bodily functions and nourishes us. In a way, water is the essence of life itself just as the mother who gave us birth. I am calling mine my hidden strength. Who is your hidden strength? During troublesome times she is the support, the ray of light and the hidden strength. This painting has a mix of abstract with figurative elements. The background and the clouds are deliberately kept abstract and fluid like the fluid in the amniotic sac or the hidden obstacles/dangers from which the mother protects us. The relationship between the mother and child symbolizes our relationship with Mother Earth.

The Story Behind

My inspiration behind this painting is my relationship with my mother as well as the reverence I feel for Mother Earth who nurtures me every single moment of my life. Water holds a high place in India. It is used in prayer ceremonies as a symbol of purity, renewal, and healing. Renewal, comfort, healing in a nutshell are the things that mothers do.

This watercolor painting that portrays the sacred mother-child relationship. Mother is always present like hidden strength. She may not be physically present, but her boundless love, is the 'hidden strength' that shields her child from all harm.

“She made broken look beautiful
and strong look invincible.
She walked with the Universe
on her shoulders and made it
look like a pair of wings.”
― Ariana Dancu

The soft delicate colors and interchanging diagonal lines of yellow and orange contrasted with dark bold mass of menacing clouds symbolize the soft, tender, gentle & loving protection of the mother against all harm. The contrast of surrounding dark colors with the soft colours of faces makes them more prominent.

The painting portrays the feelings and emotions that I experienced growing up. When my mother embraced me, I felt protected and safe from all harm.

"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." Abraham Lincoln

This is precisely the hidden strength of a mother that sustains us in times of trouble regardless of our age. She is forever present providing strength, support & guidance. Her unconditional love, her words of encouragement, her undying support & her faith in her child's ability propel the child to believe in himself/herself and strive to do the best.

Knowing where one wants to go, setting the goal and focusing on it are important in order to succeed. If one can eliminate distractions and stay focused on a single goal, success is not hard to attain. Sometimes it takes a young six-year old to remind us of this. It is based on a true story.
