Highlights of 2020

In many ways 2020 has been a very challenging year due to the pandemic caused by Corona virus. We have had to make major life style changes in order to stay safe and keep others safe. It has not been possible to connect with friends and family the way we used to. I have missed painting on Thursdays with my artist friends. It has been a challenge to not get together with other artist friends and share ideas with them. Yet, there have been many positives also. It has given me time to reflect, paint and draw more. In this blog post I am sharing some of the highlights of the year 2020.

Online Art Lessons - The pandemic caused me to think of new ways of sharing my art. I aim to create art that inspires and uplifts spirits. With that in mind, I did many free on-line art lessons, simply to help people deal with isolation by giving them an opportunity to do something fun. If you missed participating in these lessons, click here to access the lesson on painting cornflowers.  There are several others on YouTube.

Launched a New Website - In October Salt Marsh Studio launched a new website created by Punch Branding of Moncton, New Brunswick. I am truly grateful to Mr. Roger Attlee, the proprietor of Punch Branding, for creating this website. I would highly recommend this firm for any thing related to website design or branding.

10th Anniversary - In October Salt Marsh Studio celebrated its 10th anniversary. It's hard to believe that ten years have gone by since I first opened doors of my studio in 2010.

We organized a contest, ‘Win this Original Painting’. All one had to do for a chance to win, was to give a title for this painting. The winner of the contest was Sue Amos-Murphy. The title she gave was ‘Forest of Wonders’.

On the Wings of Hope - The culmination of the year came with my solo exhibition, ‘On the Wings of Hope’. It took place in November and December at the Corridor Gallery of the Multipurpose Centre in Shediac. If you missed seeing it, here is a link to the blog post, ‘On the Wings of Hope’. The post also includes a link to the YouTube video which gives a snap shot of this exhibition.

The image above entitled, 'Soaring on Hope' kind of sums it up for 2020. Hope for a better tomorrow has sustained us during this difficult year. I am looking forward to an amazing 2021 for all of us.

2023 was a year filled with creativity, art exhibitions, donations, and much more. The public art installation 'Sackville: A Visual Snapshot' was unveiled in February and a virtual tour can be done now from this website. Personal growth meant taking online courses and attending workshops.

Sackville Blog 5

How do I depict a group of settlers that lived here in the 17th and 18th century? Representing the Acadians proved to be quite challenging. I couldn’t find images that would tell the story of Acadians and depict their existence in the Tantramar area. There are some paintings by some artists, but not actual photographs.
