75th Anniversary of India's Independence

August 15, 2022 marks 75 years of India's independence from British rule. Of course, this independence came at a high cost. As Martin Luther King said, "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed." The division of the country took a very heavy toll on the people. More than 10 million people were displaced. There was racial tension and violence leading to innumerable deaths.

Lakshmi Gill and I wanted to do something special to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India's independence. We both live in Canada on opposite coasts. India is very dear to our hearts. Our Indian culture and heritage have shaped us into who we are. Our artistic and literary creations are impacted by this.

We have collaborated to create something quite unique. Lakshmi's poetry and my paintings are put together in a presentation which has been uploaded on YouTube. Lakshmi's poems can be heard in her own voice. Here's the link
