Past is Past: Future is Now – by Indu Varma
This print is inspired by two true incidents involving six-year olds. “Past is past!” These are the words of wisdom from the mouth of a six year old that we all need to remember. In reality, the past doesn’t exist except in our minds and feelings. The only thing that exists is the present moment.
The inspiration for this print and the poem below comes from two different six-year olds. One of them who saw the parents arguing and pointing fingers at each other, calmly said, “Don’t live in the past!” The other child had by mistake hit his grandfather while swinging a toy around. The grandfather told him that he ought to be more careful before he starts swinging things around. The next day when the grandfather tried to remind him in an effort to reinforce the lesson, the child calmly said, “Past is past!” These are the words of wisdom that we all need to remember. In reality, the past doesn’t exist except in our minds and feelings. The only thing that exists is the present moment.
Yesterday’s angry words Take a friend’s paw or hand,
Pierced the heart like swords. Towards the future expand.
Yesterday won’t return, One candle lights many,
Though its memories burn. Yet, costs not a penny.
All the doubts and worries cast, Create a world of happiness,
Can’t be forgotten so fast. Of light, freedom and bliss.
But why make it last, Just give love,
Let go, let go and move past. ‘N rise above.
Today’s a new dawn, Create beauty, fly high,
Forget sorrows, move on. Your limit is the sky.
Let darkness not hound, The future is ‘now’,
For light awaits all around. It’s up to you ‘how’.
